SUMMARY:Oesophageal Sweep for Speech pathologists
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand\, this workshop will provide speech pathologists with a basic understanding of normal oesophageal anatomy and physiology\, common oesophageal conditions and how they are evaluated. \nIt aims to teach speech pathologists how to conduct an oesophageal sweep during Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS) to identify patients at risk of oesophageal dysphagia and when to refer on for further specialist evaluation. \nThis three-hour workshop includes theory\, hands-on ratings\, discussion and problem solving presented by both speech pathology and ENT/ Laryngologists. It can be attended live or purchased for later viewing with a secure link (valid for one month).

SUMMARY:Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
DESCRIPTION:Open to speech pathologists wanting to up-skill in FEES\, this practical foundation course will teach the core competencies required for conducting a FEES protocol\, interpretation of findings\, written reporting and utilising it as a biofeedback tool. Essential endoscopy equipment requirements and basic nasendoscopy skills will be covered however the aim of the workshop is to have attendees able to conduct a FEES and interpret the findings\, rather than mastering the technical competency of nasendoscope insertion. \nCan be taken separately as a one-day course or coupled with the FEAT endoscopy course\, making it a comprehensive 2-day Workshop. \nFEES Course Outline\n· Clinical indicators and contraindications for use.\n· Normal and abnormal endoscopic anatomy and physiology.\n· Equipment set up and procedural components.\n· Use of anaesthesia and vasoconstrictors.\n· Food and contrast preparation.\n· Key components of a FEES Protocol.\n· Pre-swallowing tasks and observations.\n· Evaluating oropharyngeal secretion management.\n· Determining appropriate oral intake trials for evaluation.\n· Interpretation of abnormal and normal physiology.\n· Using therapeutic manoeuvres and biofeedback.\n· Interpreting and documenting findings. \nAny questions\, please contact admin@melbswallow.com.au
